What are some tips for fishing windy weather?
Since fishing is an outdoor sport, we can only work try and fish with the conditions given to us. Since we cannot control how windy it is, it is important that you understand how to fish in windy weather properly to ensure you best chances of catching fish.
First thing I would do is try and look for areas that are least effected by the wind. This is called the "windward side". This can be a protected part of the lake behind a point, a cove, or the backside of an island. The reason why there areas so great for dealing with fishing in the wind, is because it provides you relief, but also makes casting easier. Most importantly though these areas are also where bass will congregate to shelter themselves from the wind. They will use these wind protected areas to wait for an ambush to feed.
As a secondary choice, I would fish the wind blown side, as bait and food that bait feed on will congregate on the wind blown side.
Windy conditions call for more vibration and flashy lures. I would recommend a spinnerbait or Chatterbait to start with, as the large profile and good vibrations these lures put off will help the bass hone in on these. Strikes are also easier to detect which is a plus since winds cuts down your ability to sense bites.
